Making The Most Of Your WAX Profile: Pictures

The more full your profile is on WAX, the more likely you are to make connections. And not just any old connections - your profile does a lot of work to show people who you are and what you like, meaning that the more full your profile is, the more likely you are to find matches and build friendships with people who are into the same things as you.

In this article, we give you some top tips for making the most of your public gallery, including settling the sunglasses question once and for all. Spoiler alert - it’s a no.

What Makes Good Profile Pics On WAX?

An important part of almost all dating profiles is photos. We say almost all, because classified ads don’t have photos, but we’re not a newspaper and this isn’t the 1850s. Soz if you thought either of those things were the case.

On We Are X, you can have up to six pictures in your public gallery, one of which will be your leading profile pic. You only have to have one in order to join chat groups, for instance, but the more pictures you have the more likely you are to make connections. 7x more likely, to get statistical about it 🤓

Here’s how to make the most of your six snaps.

  1. It’s a good idea to show your face, especially in your first photo. People like to know who they’re talking to, and showing your face helps to build a more personal-feeling connection. Ideally, you want this photo to be a clear image of your face without any obstructions like hats, or sunglasses. Anything digitally added, like emojis or censorship bars obscuring your face, will raise alarm bells and may lead to your photo being taken down.

  2. Including a full body photo or two is also a good idea as part of your profile. You can be standing up, sitting down, lounging by a pool, riding an ostrich - you do you. This photo gives you more opportunity to show off your sense of style and character, perhaps modeling the kind of thing you might like to wear to a party, if you’re so inclined…

  3. Smiles are key! We’re not going to bore you with the science, but basically humans have something called mirror neurons in the brain, meaning that when we see someone smiling, we feel more relaxed and may even smile ourselves. A smile will make you seem more approachable to potential connections, as well as indicating that you don’t take yourself too seriously!

  4. Circling back to that ostrich riding… It's a great idea to have a photo showing your passions. And we mean SFW passions here, people. We’re talking travel, baking, fitness, dancing, making cocktails, riding ostriches (srsly why is it so hard to find someone to ride ostriches with? Asking for a friend…) This is especially true if you’re using We Are X to date, but is also important for making friends, discovering play partners and having something in common with hookups and ONS.

  5. On WAX, you can turn up the heat a lil bit more in your photos than is possible on traditional dating apps… Pop a snap in your gallery of yourself in lingerie, a puppy mask, a full latex catsuit - whatever expresses your sexual self. This is obviously not compulsory, but if you do have a pretty hot selection of leather harnesses/suspender belts/assless chaps, why not show them off a little?

What Not To Do

Now you’ve got your library of images all lined up, just double check you’re not falling into any of these common dating up photo pitfalls.

  1. Sunglasses. There is nothing more galling than scrolling through a whole profile only to realise you have not ONCE seen the person’s eyes. Unless you are that dude off of the X Men - you know the one, Mr Lazer Eyes - make sure you have at least one picture in which your face and eyes are clearly visible.

  2. Don’t include group pics. This advice is a little different to traditional dating apps. On WAX, we would recommend you don’t include pictures with family, friends, or your favourite barista. If you have an individual account, keep the photos showing just yourself as much as possible. If you have a couples account, feel free to both be in photos or to take it in turns. Pets don’t count btw - feel free to include Tiddles in your pics, but just be aware that people will be sending likes very specifically for Tiddles.

  3. Nothing too explicit! WAX has a whole private gallery for your more explicit pics, meaning you can keep them safely on our app and out of your camera roll. We do, however, ask that these remain private, unless you’re sharing them in groups.

We hope this helps! Remember, building a WAX profile should be fun and above all expressive of your full self.
