Public Chat Groups are here! This feature lets you list your chat group publicly on our website so others can find and join. Here’s a simple guide to everything you need to know.

Where Will My Public Group Be Shown?

Public groups will appear in the Communities section.

Users can find your group by:

  • Scrolling through the Latest or WAX communities lists after tapping “See All” in Communities.

  • Using the Search bar to look up a group by name.

  • Filtering by tags (you can add up to 5 tags per group) to make your chat easier to find.

How to Create a Public Chat

🎉 Great news! All WAX Users can create Public Chat groups.

Here’s how:

  1. Tap the “+” button on the Inbox screen.

  2. Select “Public Chat”.

  3. Fill in Chat Name, Description, and Picture (all required).

  4. Add 1–10 tags to help others find your chat.

  5. (Optional) Enter a location (limited to city & country).

  6. Review and agree to the WAX Rules and Values.

  7. Submit your chat for review! 🚀

Once submitted, your chat will appear in your inbox with a status of “Group Under Review”. You won’t be able to access it until it’s approved.

  • If your group is rejected, you’ll have the option to edit changes or delete the application.

Once approved, you’ll receive a notification, and your group will go live!

Getting Your Public Chat Approved

Before going live, your chat must be reviewed and approved by WAX Admin.

We check:

✅ Chat name

✅ Profile picture

✅ Description

✅ Tags

If you update any of these later, the changes won’t need reapproval, but WAX Admin will be able to see them. If a group breaks our platform rules, WAX Admin can remove it, and the owner will be notified with the option to update and resubmit.

Moderation Rules – Keeping It Safe & Fun

  • Joining a Public Chat: Users must be approved by the chat owner or an admin before they can join.

  • Chat owners can assign admins to help manage the group.

  • What happens if the owner leaves? The system will automatically assign an admin as the new owner. If no admins exist, a random member will become the new owner.

  • Adding members: Owners and admins cannot manually add people—everyone must request to join.

  • Deleting a group: Only the chat owner can delete the chat.

  • Group size: Public chats can have up to 2,000 members!

Managing Requests to Join

  • Requests appear in real time, so admins don’t need to refresh to see them.

  • Admins can view user profiles before deciding to accept or reject them.

  • Requests are easy to manage within the chat screen.

Chat Features – Making Conversations Better

Pinned Messages 📌

  • Only chat owners and admins can pin or unpin messages.

  • Max 5 pinned messages per chat.

  • Only text messages can be pinned.

  • When pinned, a message will show: “[Username] pinned a message”.

  • Tapping a pinned message takes users back to it.

  • If you try to pin more than 5 messages, you’ll get an error message.

Blocking & Reporting 🚫

  • Blocking in Public Groups: Your public group is visible to all WAX users, including those you have blocked. Blocked users can apply to join your group. Blocks do not extend to Public Groups, so if you are in a public group chat with a blocked user, they will see your interactions within the chat. However, they cannot connect with you, view your profile, or send you direct messages.

  • Reporting: Lets you flag inappropriate behavior for admin review.

That’s it! Public Chat Groups are a great way to connect with like-minded people and grow your community. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to WAX Support. 🚀
